Varsity Black Season Recap

This group was the most connected group that Inspiration has had in a long time. Everyone truly wanted one another to succeed. This group fully embraced the culture that was set up for them in the fall. Team chemistry played a huge part in each player's growth and advancement to where they are today.

Accountability was a huge piece in this team's success. Pairing that with their intention to have high positive energy was invaluable. Maintaining this focus kept the dugout locked in as they fed off this constant energy. As the season continued there was never a dip in their focus. They continued to learn throughout the season, and applied their adjustments into the games. Many adjustments transferred to their in-game approaches, and provided positive momentum throughout the season.

During the regular season, 7 starters hit over .300 including 2 players who hit over .400. This accumulated to a team batting average of .320 for the year. As a team they averaged 6.6 runs per game, scoring 205 runs in 31 games. The offensive consistency paired with a .214 BAA from the pitching staff gave them the opportunity to win a lot of games.

Several players were recognized for their commitment and development during their time here. The awards were - the Lion's Legacy Award, the Most Valuable Player, and the Most Improved Player.

The Lion's Legacy Award was presented to the athlete who embodies what it means to be a Lion. He embraces our core values in his daily life and naturally encourages others to follow his steps. This athlete goes above and beyond in everything he does without seeking any recognition. This year's Lion's Legacy recipient is Caden Brown. Caden's impact on this program throughout his time here is two-fold. On the field he is a natural leader with infectious energy that makes it easy to follow him. His contributions on the field are endless. However, it's his actions off the field that made him such a person. He has been a role model for the younger players during his time here. Caden's approach to life fully embodies what it means to be a Lion.

The Most Valuable Player went to the player who was invaluable to the success and growth of the team. This player provided key contributions on all sides of the ball. This year's Most Valuable Player was awarded to Ty Harvey. Ty led the team offensively hitting .452 with 42 hits on the year. He compiled 20 extra base hits, including 8 home runs. He had the ability to change the game with his presence behind the plate. Ty was a difference maker in all facets of his game.

The Most Improved Player showed the most improvement throughout the year in all aspects of his game. This player took advantage of his opportunities and became a key player for the Lions. This year's Most Improved Player was Brennan Petersen. Brennan's work ethic in the offseason translated to his success on the field. He established himself in the lineup and hit .330 on the year. Brennan had 10 multi-hit games against some of the best competition they faced. His dedication to his growth can be seen in practice and is a huge testament to his success.
