As we are two weeks away from the spring schedules opening all the boys and girls at IA are deep into intrasquad and scrimmages preparing for the season ahead.
One of the goals for Inspiration Academy softball is to provide some of the toughest competition around to better prepare our girls for college. Coach Commerford and Coach Gerwitz have done just that as they not only have a gauntlet of a regular season schedule, but a tough preseason schedule that will put the athletes to the test. The girls will start the preseason by hosting the historic powerhouse Lakewood Ranch on Monday, February 12th and Wednesday, February 14th followed by playing junior colleges Miami Dade and Indian River on Saturday, February 17th at Lee Health Sports Complex in Fort Myers.
When asked about the preseason Coach Commerford stated "I love playing Lakewood Ranch and have a lot of respect for them, they have been historically not only the best team in the area but one of the best teams in the nation. As we build this program, we strive to have the kind of winning legacy that Lakewood Ranch has had so we put our girls up against them to see how they stack up."
On the opportunity to play colleges Coach Anne Gerwitz said, "Of course I jumped at the opportunity! Not only do we get to see how our girls do against more mature talent, but we get to show the girls what college softball is like and showcase them to the colleges we play, it's a win-win."
"The opportunity to play colleges in high school is not one that many get. We know we are blessed to have received the invitation, but I think this is a cumulation of everything our girls are working toward and the talent they are showing out on the diamond. People are starting to take notice." Coach Commerford stated. "At the end of the day, we are here to grow the athletes holistically and not only place them in college but have them ready to compete in college. Every move we make we try to keep that in mind as we try to be the best in developing athletes and creating the next generation of leaders."
Inspiration Academy opens their regular season schedule on Tuesday February 20th hosting Sarasota high at 7pm
